Celebrate

Commemorate

Join us on June 27, 2026 from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM as we commemorate both Juneteenth and the successful decades long community campaign that renamed this site to honor the Black Gold Miners who established one of California’s earliest Black communities at this site in 1849.

This historic site’s name has evolved from a racial slur, to “Negro Bar,” and now proudly bears the name “Black Miners Bar” – a testament to perseverance and the importance of honoring complete history.

Educate

Juneteenth, observed on June 19th, commemorates the date that the last enslaved African Americans were notified of their freedom in Galveston Texas 2.5 years after President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation. It holds significant historical and cultural importance as a symbol of liberation, resilience, and the ongoing battle for civil rights.
